Foreign visitors arriving in the United States via air or sea are issued a passport admission stamp or a small white card, called Form I-94 Arrival-Departure Record. The Arrival-Departure Record or Form I-94 indicates the immigration status or parole, and for how long the foreign national is allowed to stay in the U.S. by writing either a specific date or 'D/S' (Duration of Status). It also proves that the nonimmigrant has entered the country legally.
If the nonimmigrant has received a passport admission stamp, there will also be a electronic I-94 record, and that should be printed immediately after arrival. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) launched a web page that offers U.S. visitors access to their I-94 arrival/departure record and their arrival/departure history. Those nonimmigrants who need to prove their legal-visitor status—to employers, schools/universities or government agencies—can access their CBP arrival/departure record information online.
Those that arrive in the U.S. by crossing a land border will receive a paper Arrival-Departure Record I-94 card, which means that there will be no electronic record.
All nonimmigrants are required to keep the passport entry stamp and departure part of their Arrival-Departure Record with them at all times for the duration of their stay.
