How long does it take to become a citizen after filing Form N-400?

The decision to become a U.S. citizen is a very important one. Becoming a citizen means committing to the United States values and laws, and understanding not only the benefits but also the responsibilities.

To apply for U.S. citizenship, applicants are required to meet the eligibility requirements set by U.S. law and complete and submit Form N-400 - Application for U.S. citizenship.

The naturalization processing times can vary significantly based on the USCIS case load, the USCIS office where the application eas filed, and if Form N-400 - Application for Naturalization was properly submitted. Currently, it takes anywhere from 5 months to a year to get U.S. Citizenship from the date of the application. Because applications are processed on a case-by-case basis, the waiting time varies.
